The fact that some of
life's deepest lessons can be learned from
what we humans consider 'simple' creatures could only be
picked up on by an author as sensitive and observant as
Gail MacMillan. Laughter and tears flow in equal measure.
~ Rebecca Melvin, author of In the Brief Eternal Silence
With the writing of Ceilidh’s
Quest, Gail MacMillan has joined the ranks of the authors
of such classics as Lassie, Come Home and Black Beauty.
~ Douglas Wayne Coldwell, author, educator, and breeder
of
champion Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retrievers
Ceilidh’s Quest is a very
personal treatise on the unique and reciprocal interspecies
relationships that manifest between people and dogs…understood
completely by incurable dog people everywhere.
~ Jim Gourlay, publisher, Eastern Woods and Waters and Saltscapes
magazines.
Gail MacMillan has succeeded
once again to captivate dog lovers with the enchanting tale
of Ceilidh. It tugs at your heart and warms your sense of
family traditions.
~ Lyman Ward, Hollywood writer, director, and actor

Biography Of a Beagle
Over the course of sixteen years,
Brandy astonished me, horrified me, humbled me, exasperated me,
delighted me, inspired me, comforted me, and loved me...all in
his own unique fashion.
Ours was a symbiotic relationship.
I explained, reasoned, and outright lied his way out of most of
the scrapes he got himself into. In return he provided me with
copious grist for my creativemill, a constant fuel supply for
my joie de vivre, an excellent example
of endless optimism, and boundless unconditional love."

Gail MacMillan,
has, with a great deal of sensitivity brought together stories about
the Little River Duck Dog (now known as Nova Scotia Duck Tolling
Retrievers) and the people who bred them over the years. Archival
photos show this delightful dog, their owners, and the love that
takes place between man and canine.
A great book about Nova Scotia's
Little River tolling retrievers which are bred the ATTRACT as
well as retrieve ducks. Lots of background stories about the breeders
and the owners of these dogs.
This story of dogs bred to
attract ducks is more than entertaining. Gail MacMillan takes
the reader back from the show dogs the registered Nova Scotia
Duck Tolling Retrievers, back to the Little River Duck Dogs, and
to their owners who have, for centuries now, kept these beautiful
dogs. The dogs are a prize and so is the book by Gail MacMillan.

Absolutely
phenomenal! This book was way overdue for Toller fanciers. Persons
new to the breed will find this book a valuable, informative resource
to be treasured!
This is still the definitive book on
the Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever. I recommend it to every
Toller owner or would-be Toller owner. The book captures your
interest all the way through with its background, history, wonderful
pictures and discussions of breeders who deeply care about this
breed.
This book is better than I could have
imagined. It gives in depth details of every aspect of the breed.
It is very easy to read, even for those people who are not familiar
with breeding, showing, and hunting terminology.
